Kindle Sync Issues
Having trouble syncing your Kindle highlights? Here are the most common issues and how to fix them.
Extension Not Working
Section titled “Extension Not Working”The extension asks you to log in
Section titled “The extension asks you to log in”The extension requires an active session in the Becoming web app.
- Open the Becoming web app in a new tab.
- Sign in to your account.
- Go back to the extension and try again.
How the extension popup works
Section titled “How the extension popup works”The extension popup only reflects your sign-in state — it shows “You’re logged in” or a “Log in” button. There’s no per-page activation, the icon never grays out, and the popup doesn’t navigate to the Kindle Notebook. You start a sync from the Becoming web app’s Kindle connect view (Add source → Kindle → Install Extension); the extension then fetches your highlights from read.amazon.com/notebook in the background.
Amazon / Kindle Issues
Section titled “Amazon / Kindle Issues”No books appear in Kindle Notebook
Section titled “No books appear in Kindle Notebook”- Verify you’re signed in to the correct Amazon account at read.amazon.com.
- Not all Kindle content syncs highlights to the cloud. Books purchased from Amazon typically do; side-loaded documents may not.
- Check that you actually have highlights in the books (open a book in the Kindle Notebook to verify).
Some highlights are missing
Section titled “Some highlights are missing”Amazon’s Kindle Notebook only shows a limited number of highlights per book on screen, but the extension paginates past that display limit, so it generally captures more than the visible page.
If something still looks capped: Use the Kindle Clippings import method as a fallback — your Kindle device stores all highlights locally in a My Clippings.txt file without Amazon’s limits.
”Access Denied” or login redirect
Section titled “”Access Denied” or login redirect”- Clear your Amazon cookies and sign in again at read.amazon.com.
- If you use multiple Amazon accounts, make sure you’re signed in to the one linked to your Kindle.
Import Issues
Section titled “Import Issues”Sync starts but never completes
Section titled “Sync starts but never completes”- Check your internet connection.
- If the progress bar hasn’t moved in 5+ minutes, close the extension popup and try again.
- For very large libraries (500+ books), the first sync may take several minutes.
Highlights imported but don’t appear in the app
Section titled “Highlights imported but don’t appear in the app”- Refresh the Becoming web app.
- Check your import history — if the import status is “Completed”, the highlights are in your library. Try searching for a specific book title.
Duplicate highlights after re-syncing
Section titled “Duplicate highlights after re-syncing”This shouldn’t happen — Becoming deduplicates by content. If you’re seeing duplicates, they may be slightly different passages (Amazon sometimes adjusts highlight boundaries). If the issue persists, contact support.
Still Stuck?
Section titled “Still Stuck?”If none of the above resolves your issue, check the Account Issues page or reach out to support.
