Themes
A Theme is a 4-week (28-day) growth focus grounded in your own highlights. You work on one Theme at a time, so your attention stays in one place instead of scattering.
It’s gentle by design. A Theme isn’t a course to finish or pass — it’s an invitation to sit with an idea that already matters to you and let it settle into daily life.
Where a Theme comes from
Section titled “Where a Theme comes from”Becoming reads across your highlights and looks for ideas that keep showing up in different sources, favoring what you’ve read recently. It’s about where your thinking is converging — not how many highlights any single book happens to have.
You need at least 25 highlights in your language before Becoming can generate your first Theme.
Starting a Theme
Section titled “Starting a Theme”You can begin a Theme in three ways:
- From your whole library — the New Theme screen scans everything you’ve saved and lets Becoming choose a focus.
- From a specific highlight — use Make Theme in Daily Review to grow a focus from one passage that’s on your mind.
- By describing your intent — the Tell us what you want to work on option lets you type what you want to work on, in your own words.
Generating a Theme uses AI credits — 66 from your whole library, 10 from a single highlight or a typed intent, and 6 to extend one for another four weeks.
The checkpoint
Section titled “The checkpoint”At the start of the final week, a Theme reaches a checkpoint — a gentle digest of the four weeks and a choice:
- Extend — keep going for another four weeks.
- Finish — close this Theme, and optionally begin a new one.
There’s no wrong choice here, and nothing breaks if you step away for a while.
