Kindle Clippings
Every Kindle e-reader keeps a plain text file called My Clippings.txt. Each time you highlight a passage or add a note, the device appends it to this file. If you read on a physical Kindle that isn’t always online, this is the most complete record of what you’ve marked.
Get My Clippings.txt off your Kindle
Section titled “Get My Clippings.txt off your Kindle”- Connect your Kindle to your computer with a USB cable.
- The Kindle shows up as a drive (or device) in your file browser.
- Open the documents folder.
- Copy My Clippings.txt to your computer.
Upload it to Becoming
Section titled “Upload it to Becoming”- In the web app, go to your library and choose Add source.
- Pick MyClippings.txt.
- Select the
My Clippings.txtfile you copied. - Becoming previews the books it found, then imports your highlights. (Standalone notes in
My Clippings.txtare skipped — only highlighted passages are imported.)
Becoming reads the My Clippings.txt format in English, Spanish, German, and Japanese, so highlights import correctly whatever language your Kindle is set to.
