Generating Themes

A Theme is a 4-week growth focus grounded in your own highlights. Generating one is an Academy feature, and Becoming gives you a few ways to start.

Before you start

You need at least 25 highlights in your language. This gives Becoming enough of your own material to work from.
Generating a Theme uses AI credits: 66 for a Theme drawn from your whole library, 10 for one grown from a single highlight or a typed intent — Practices included either way.

If you’re short on highlights, import a few more sources first.

Three ways to start

From your library

Go to Themes → New (/themes/new) and let Becoming draw from your whole library. This is the best choice when you want it to surface a focus you might not have named yourself.

From a specific highlight

In Daily Review, choose Make Theme on a highlight. Becoming builds the focus around that idea and the related highlights around it. Good for when one passage really landed.

From a typed intent

On the New Theme screen, choose Tell us what you want to work on and describe, in your own words, what you want to work on — “being more patient with my kids,” say. Becoming finds the highlights in your library that speak to it and shapes a Theme around them.

What happens next

Generation runs in the background, so you can keep using the app while it works. Your first week of Practices is prepared first, so you can begin right away while the rest comes together.

Becoming grounds every Theme in cross-source idea convergence and recency — the ideas that keep showing up across what you’ve read, weighted toward what you’ve saved lately. It isn’t about how many highlights any single source has.
