Daily Practices
While a Theme is active, Becoming gives you small daily Practices — little actions, a few minutes each, drawn from your own highlights. They’re an Academy feature, and you’ll find today’s on your Home screen.
Two kinds of Practice
Section titled “Two kinds of Practice”| Type | What it asks |
|---|---|
| Reflect | Sit with an idea and let it sink in |
| Act | Try the idea out in real life |
Both are short. Neither is meant to take over your day.
Working through a Practice
Section titled “Working through a Practice”Open Home to see what’s waiting for you today. For each one you can:
- Mark as done when you’ve done it.
- Later if now isn’t the moment. The Practice steps aside on Home and comes back on its own a few hours later — never past the evening, and never into another day. When it returns you get one reminder: a push notification if you use the app with reminders on, otherwise a short email. Bring it back returns it sooner. Late in the day Later stops being offered — there’s no later left to move it to.
- Skip today if today isn’t the day.
The daily email carries the same two buttons, with a quiet Not now? Remind me later today link under them.
A Reflect Practice includes an optional reflection field — a place to jot down what you noticed. Anything you write is saved with that Practice, so you can look back on it later. Writing something is always optional.
Forgot to mark one?
Section titled “Forgot to mark one?”If you did a Practice but never marked it, open the Theme, pick that day on its timeline, and Mark as done — it counts on the day you did it. This works for any day while the Theme is active; once a Theme is finished, its timeline is read-only. Home also shows a small Did one earlier this week and forgot to mark it? link when that applies, and it takes you straight there.
Setting your rhythm
Section titled “Setting your rhythm”Practices fit around your life, and you decide the shape of that in two places.
When you set a Theme’s Practices up, Becoming asks three things:
- Context — whether you’ll use this mostly at work, in your personal life, or both. It steers where the Practices are set.
- Mix — weighted towards Act, towards Reflect, or balanced between them.
- Schedule — which days of the week bring a Practice.
Afterwards, the days and the time you’re nudged are in Settings → Notifications. Change them whenever your week changes. To stop the nudges altogether, switch off Practice reminders there — that also stops the Theme checkpoint email. Your Practices are still on Home whenever you want them.
A day that isn’t in your schedule simply doesn’t bring a Practice — there’s nothing waiting there to catch up on.
No homework
Section titled “No homework”Practices are gentle by design. Nothing “breaks” if you skip one, and there’s no streak to protect or grade to earn. They’re prompts, not obligations — take the ones that fit and let the rest go. Later is the same: one quiet reminder, then it lets the day end like any other.
