Goodreads

Connecting Goodreads brings your shelves into Becoming, each book on its shelf, and adds popular quotes to every book on them, so you start with real passages to work from.

Connect Goodreads

1. In the web app, go to your library and choose Add source.
2. Pick Goodreads.
3. Paste your Goodreads profile URL — e.g. https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/12345 — and click Sync Goodreads.

To find your profile URL: go to goodreads.com and sign in, click your profile picture → Profile, then copy the URL from your browser’s address bar.

Note

Your Goodreads profile must be public for your shelves to import. Becoming reads your public shelves — it never signs in to your account.

What gets imported

Becoming imports the books on all three of your shelves, and each lands on the matching shelf in your library:

Every book, whichever shelf it’s on, also gets popular quotes — passages other readers highlighted most — so it arrives with highlights even if you never marked it yourself. Popular quotes carry a Popular chip (and a Translated chip when shown in another language). Your read books go first, so they’re ready soonest.

While it runs

The import runs in the background. You can keep using the app while Becoming works through your shelves; your books and highlights appear as they finish.

Staying in sync

Once connected, Becoming checks your Goodreads shelves once a day, adds any books that are new to them, and moves a book along as your Goodreads shelf changes: to Reading when you start it, to Read when you finish it. A sync only ever moves a book forward: if you’ve moved a Goodreads book back to Want to read by hand, the next sync puts it on Read again. Daily syncing runs while you have an active subscription or trial.

Want something sooner? Open Integrations → Goodreads and click Sync again.
